Your words make me think you're very young. I'm 57 and I've experienced more work/school absenteeism in previous years/decades and this year, through non SCV2 illness. Just last week 95% absenteeism at my school, not SCV2.

Thanks for reading my comment; I am older than you. My words here were not to deny that people are getting ill - we (USA) are and were well before the "pandemic" a very ill (and aging) society- obesity, vast number of (vax induced?) auto-immune and chronic diseases, over medicated and on and on. The amazing bottom line of this post is that the whole pandemic was a complete hoax. Others have reached that conclusion before Couey - but what is probably not appreciated is that running the hoax was only possible in the context of a very sick populace to start with. Large number of nursing home residents? - Probably just banning family visits and imposing near solitary confinement was enough to produce a big bump in excess deaths.
Yes, some people just never get sick. I guess you are one of those. With my three flu in my 40s, plus all the colds when I was under 20 due to my smoking parents, I am well acquainted with respiratory illness.
My point was really just of the people who say: "OMG this was so different" had never experienced the flu before, so had no point of comparison.
Our healthcare infrastructure (single payer or not) REQUIRES that we be sickly, it's the source of profits to the Medical Industrial Complex. Until people understand the consequences of the profit motive, we'll all continue to be more obsessed with extra longevity rather than healthy youth and adulthood. We are fucked, because people have their eye on the wrong ball.
To the point of healthcare / drug companies needing the world to be sick, watch out for this tactic. Once you see it, it is hard not to see it: There is currently an advertisement featuring people over 50 that is for memory loss assessment and treatment. I cannot remember if it is for a specific drug or just a general class of conditions. The ad finishes up with some sort of statement such as "if you are noticing a change in your ability to recall information or other changes in memory, experience "brain fog" or other blah blah blah go to this website" where we will convince you that you have a problem (basically).
Now, what this really feels like to me is an extension of what the media does with pushing panic every time it rains, snows or the wind blows. It is an attempt to market natural phenomena as something you can and should feel scared of and do something about. Everyone's memory declines as they get older. This is natural. And even if you do have some "brain fog" or whatever, the first thing you should do is check your diet, get some exercise and get some sleep. If you still can't remember whether or not you own a cat, sure, maybe go see 2 or 3 different doctors IN PERSON and see what they say before letting the drug companies profile and scare you on a website.
This crap is everywhere, now. Total fear marketing and censorship. Healthcare industry is evil.
Banning families is not the answer to controlling nursing home deaths as it ignores the mental aspects of health and wellness. A friend lost her 90+ year old mother when the nursing home in WA state banned visitors for so long, she just stopped eating and although she was cognitively healthy before lockdowns, she ceased to desire to live which is known as failure to thrive. She died alone without her family.
